Norval Women's Institute

1967 Centennial - Norval Women's Institute Cairn

Norval Women’s Institute was founded in 1906 by Adelaide Hoodless of the University of Guelph. The Women’s Institute is an international organization with the aim of educating women for a better home and family life. They supported Canada’s war effort in both World Wars by knitting scarves and socks for the troops. As Norval’s Centennial project, the WI erected a cairn with the old Norval School Bell on the top and a box of 1967 memorabilia inside. In 2017 the cairn will be opened to reveal the treasures inside and to inter memorabilia from 2017 when the cairn is closed again.
