Donnalee Stewart

Donnalee Stewart is a local landscaper and figurative artist who draws inspiration from everyday moments, rural scenes, beaches, and travel destinations.

Drawing and colouring are among her earliest memories, her prized possessions being a Crayola 24 pack, and a Paint with Water colouring book.  Her talent was reinforced in first grade when she won a prize for her “Porky Pig & Woody Woodpecker” drawings sent into the local television station - CKCO “Big Al ‘s” children’s show.

Creating remained an outlet but took a backseat until 2007.  With the children more independent, she began studying at the Guelph School of Art with Eileen MacArthur, David Caesar and Jessica Masters.  It was Jessica Masters “Beginner Soft Pastel” course in 2013 that was a turning point, and the start of an addictions far stronger than Crayola.  Multiple workshops, and two ICAN Pastel Conferences later, it has become her medium of choice for its simplicity and immediacy.

More recently (2017) oil painting lessons with Lorne Winters, and portrait workshops abroad (Italy & India) with Laurie McGaw have greatly influenced her work.

In 2018 her dream of having a dedicated home studio was realized.  She feels most at home in her rural studio, surrounded by changing crops and seasons, painting only things she loves

She is currently a member of (PAC) Pastel association of Canada, (CGOS) Canadian Glaze Oil Society, and the (GCAA) Guelph Creative Arts Association. Her art hangs in local corporate and private collections in Ontario as well as private homes in Wales, Spain, and Italy.
